Sports coaching career- Job of a coach, eligibility and training.

Sports coaching are fast becoming popular career option. Coaches are there for every game and athletic event. The main job of a coach is to spot and select potential players, make them understand games’ instructions and rules, plan and implement training schedules for the precision of their movements, demonstrate effective techniques of the play to bring up their game level, observe players in while in game and offer helpful criticism and corrective methods. Coach also accompanies players during tournaments and provides the necessary guidance as well as boost up their player's morale.

Coaching requires a lot of mental exercise. Performance of a team depends a lot on the coach. A coach strategizes the game of its team or player, observe the opponent players, read their strategy and create a layered counter strategies. It is his knowledge of the team, its members, game, its allied developments, and his experiences that help to devise an effective training program. A coach should also have good interpersonal skills to communicate the larger goals of the team effectively to its team members. He should be clear in defining philosophies of the training and it should be non-conflicting. He must be well versed with sports psychologies and stress management techniques so that his players are able to maintain a positive frame of mind during tough competition.

Important credentials that a coach must have are:
  •  Experience and Training
  • Patience, perseverance and a sporting spirit

Sports coaching: a playing career

From Engineering and Photography as a career option today we have sports coaching as a career option.
Sports and competition had been an inseparable term since early days. Think of Olympics. Sports are serious leisure activities that can bring in an adrenaline rush in both- players and viewers. Sports and performance in sports make one self an achiever, and in the highest level, the nation proud. Be it any form of sports, every countryman would like its national teams or players to win. When players or teams make a podium finish, it spreads feeling of pride among everyone associated with the player. People of the world are crazy after sports and follow it like a religion. At times there had been unpleasant instances of clash among two opposing teams and there had been dirty fights claiming lives.

Every sport is played by a player or team. Everyone knows the soccer team of Brazil or Argentina or Barcelona or Real Madrid or Manchester United, play soccer well; Hockey team of Canada or India play hockey well; Baseball teams like New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox play baseball well; Vishwanathan Anand is world chess champion and Nadia Comaneci is the perfect 10 getter gymnast. The list will be endless about various sports, its team, players and name, fame and money it has brought to all.
Today sports events are a big business. There are big business houses pouring money in sports development, players, sports altogether to increase effectiveness of their brand and reach or create new markets. Indian Premier League is the best example. We are not going to discuss the pros or cons of it. What we will discuss is the opportunity that it opens up in front of us.

Every team or player likes to win and that requires training and techniques, which has to be an inch above the competitor. Here comes the role of the Sports coach. Sports coaches are responsible for getting sporting teams or individuals ready to compete, and even guide them through their event. Extra duties may include recruiting players, developing game strategies, and teaching the skills of the sport. Football coach Scolari was paid 5.5 million pounds as per new way back in 2008. That is a lot of money.

In our discussion about sports coaching we will evaluate every aspect of it to check it as a career option in forth coming blogposts. We will see what education and training is required, which are the best places of the world to undergo trainings, what are the expenses and what is the general earning potential.

Engineering: Top Engineering institutes of the world.

P6/28052012

This post is focussed for those who wish to pursue their engineering education abroad and take on their career aspirations. I personally believe the IITs to be at par with any engineering institutions of the world. However, if resources permits, it does make sense to go study and experience in these institutions of abroad sheer to observe the kind of researches they do and their approach to technology. These institutions have their individual admission patterns; however, most of them accept GRE scores. TOEFL  / IELTS score is also required.

Below I mention some of the top Engineering Institutions of the world which are worth being considered.

I must tell you here that it will be helpful if you can just enquire about the colleges that you are interested in taking admissions. These colleges are expensive, however based on your GRE scores and mix of other factors financial aid is extended on case to case basis.

I think I have tried and covered fair amount of information on engineering to give an idea of what it is all about. Engineering is an skill and provides really good scope for future, given that you do it from good institution.

Do write on how much you find these pieces of information useful. Do share them freely.

Engineering: Top Engineering institutes in India

P5 12062012
After discussion on educational requirements, admissions and course fees in previous blogpost, the obvious question is- which are the best colleges that should be looked up to? In this post we are exactly to discover this- the best engineering colleges of India.

Our discussion will have two groups- Government Colleges and Non-Government Colleges. I personally believe one should try for the government colleges. These colleges have the best of the resources, in terms of both physical and intellectual, and wide acceptance of the degree, which is most important post the engineering study. All these colleges also have a common test for admissions. So a single format of admission makes one eligible to apply for all engineering colleges as per choice and performance in the test. These colleges receive grant from the government and hence the expenses to study in these colleges are also lower.

However, I have also included a list of private engineering colleges which are worth. They have comparable resources with the government colleges and at times better. But, the expenses of undertaking engineering training in these institutes are on the higher side, at times up to 100%. Ideally aspirant can decide up on which format to choose.

First, I mention the list of government colleges:

Now, the list of private engineering colleges:

I am sure this post would help aspirants a lot in deciding their college if they want to pursue engineering as a career option. However, if they want to know about best engineering colleges outside India, then wait till the next post. There we will discuss about the best engineering colleges of the world.

I am sure this blogpost have been useful to many. I request you to share this freely if you find it useful. Do comment on how you like it. Happy reading happy career :)

Engineering: Educational requirements, admission and course fees

P4 23042012

After discussing about various streams in engineering in my previous post, I am sure aspirants would be interested in knowing admission procedures. In this post we will particularly talk about Admissions and course fee structure. This is my personal feeling that one should try for the best and settle for no mediocre. In this post we consider the top government engineering colleges of India and only top 10 private engineering colleges. This is for the reason that when you choose engineering as career you should get properly trained, as you will design and build machines, devices, software, processes, structures and what not. So there should be no compromise in quality of teaching and resources, and government engineering colleges have them the best.

Below I state the basic requirements for national and international students based on kind of adopted education system:

It is safe to have first class marks in the above stated education levels.

For admissions in IIT JEE below table shows form fees:

For admissions in AIEEE, below table shows the form fees:

It is sensible to appear for IIT JEE and  AIEEE. Course fees in Govt colleges is around 3,50,000 (Hostel + Tuition) Rs + Candidates’ own expenses. Actual amount is discussed at the counseling session.  It is important that students start checking on admission requirements as early as in class 10

Government Colleges are preferred over private colleges. It is well valued and also worth it. Colleges like IITs have the best of the resources and training. For students who need financial assistance (educational loans) from banks for the completion of engineering courses, then if the college selected is a Govt. one, it is passed with minimum hassles.

I am sure this post has been useful in terms of clarifying the basic approach to get admissions in to best engineering colleges. In our next blog post we will discuss the best national and international colleges.

Do let me know how these posts are helpful through your comments. Also comment on how to improve. Share it freely if you find useful. Happy reading, Happy career :)

Career Option- Engineer and Engineering as a profession

An engineer is a person who is trained professionally to apply scientific knowledge, mathematics and ideas to solve real world problems in financially efficient manner. Engineering as a career option would involve major responsibilities of understanding interpreting and defining worldly technical problems, doing research, analysing criteria, finding and analysing relevant solutions and making commercially viable decisions with due respect in time.

There are multiple disciplines in engineering with varying career options. Some of the most popular ones are Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Electronics, Systems, Computer software and hardware and many more. In layman terms engineers, depending on their specialities, build bridges, roads, buildings, TVs, Mobiles, Laptops, iPads, Cars, Aeroplanes, Ships and the list goes on. Engineers have pretty decent financial beginnings in career depending on the colleges they pass out from. I will try and discuss each of them as career option in the coming posts.

To be an Engineer one has to be educated and trained in engineering discipline. There are various colleges in India and world where engineers are made, like IITS in India, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of California, Stanford University and many more. A student must have aptitude for science subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After 10 std, in India, science stream must be chosen with Physics, Chemistry and Maths combination. After 12th or Junior college in science stream, one can take entrance exams conducted by various engineering institutes, like IIT-JEE and AIEEE tests in India.

I guess the above matter gives fair amount of primary information and in my next blogs, I will go in details of streams in engineering, colleges, admission and preparation, fees, coaching, future and some lists of relevant web sites and coaching institutes.
