Engineering: Various Engineering streams to evaluate career options

There are various streams in engineering that helps one to get trained and with due experience  build bridges like Brooklyn, electronic robots like Asimo, design cars like Ferrari, fabricate air planes like Air Bus, plan sewer outlets for city like Municipality planning department or build products like i-Pad or feature devices like cruise control for cars. The lists of specialties in engineering are endless, however classified under major heads. Practically, based on one’s aptitude, liking and rankings in various competitive exams like IIT-JEE or AIEEE- choice of stream can be made.

Pardon me for the length of this blog as this has exhaustive list of engineering streams, researched and compiled from personal sources and net, for your ready reference and understanding of engineering as a career option. I am sure this would be informative and give you a fair amount of idea what Engineering has in offer for you. I request you to share this article freely if you find this helpful for yourself or if not suggest me how can I bring about suitable changes.

Below is the list of streams with their descriptions:

Civil Engineering: Civil engineering is one of the most popular streams and which involves design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and natural built environments.

Mechanical engineering: Mechanical engineering is one of the most sought after career option. It involves various applications of various core concepts of Physics like mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, material science and structural analysis.

Electrical engineering: Electrical engineering comprises study and application of concepts of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism to design new devices or improve the existing ones.

Chemical engineering: It is the study and application of core concepts of physical science, life science in combination of mathematics and economics in order to process naturally occurring raw materials in to more valuable forms. It has wide career options in metal processing industries, petroleum industry, paper industry etc.

Interdisciplinary and specialized fields: Below is table showing various streams with their descriptions. These are the streams that stem out from any of the above mentioned core streams and involve further specialised study of chosen subjects.

I am sure the above illustration will go a long way in making an informed career decision. Feel free to share these if its useful to you. Do write comments if you feel it can be improved further.
